ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -

Police in Anne Arundel County say a teenager is dead after being struck by a car while trying to cross a road in Annapolis.

Police say the accident happened Friday just after 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Solomons Island Road and West Street. Police say 18-year-old Ajia Marketta Owens of Severn was trying to cross Solomons Island Road when she was struck by a vehicle.

Police say that at the time of the collision it was raining heavily and that Owens was wearing dark clothing. She was not crossing at a marked crosswalk. Police say there is no evidence that the driver that hit Owens was driving recklessly or speeding.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
