Woman killed, teen escapes house fire

ODENTON, Md. (WMAR) - Anne Arundel County Fire crews are working to determine what caused a deadly fire.
Crews were dispatched at about 5:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of Tenbrook Road for reports of a dwelling fire with the possibility of someone being trapped.
First arriving units found a 2-story duplex with heavy fire coming from the left-hand unit. A 15-year-old boy was able to escape the flames from a second story window, he was unhurt in the fire.
As crews fought the fire in an aggressive attack, they found 91-year-old Blanche Anderson in her first floor bedroom, unconscious and unresponsive. She was taken outside and assessed by paramedics at the scene, who determined that she suffered fatal injuries as a result of the fire. She was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Family members say Anderson could walk but was blind and unable to escape.
It took 25 firefighters about 45 minutes to bring the 1-alarm fire under control.
The fire originated on the first floor of the dwelling and caused an estimated $150,000 in damages.
At this time, the woman's cause of death and name are being held pending notification of next of kin and an autopsy by the Medical Examiner.
If the cause of the woman's death is ruled to be fire related, it will be the 6th fire death in Anne Arundel County for 2012.
Officials say there were working smoke detectors inside the home.
