ODENTON, Md. - The Odenton Town Center agreement has been unanimously approved.

The Odenton Town Center is a 1600-acre mixed-use development that is governed by a County Council-approved Master Plan outline. The planning process has been taking shape for over 40 years, and has begun to take shape as a result of the growth coming to the area as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure expansion of Fort Meade.

The new Odenton Town Center's core is its transit-oriented development. The center has been designed to encourage pedestrian-friendly projects close to the Odenton MARC Station. Planned projects combine retail, restaurants, office, and residential space, as well as parks, plazas, and recreational trails, so that members of the community can live, work, and play without getting in their car.

The Town Center is not a single-developer project – over 20 developers currently have projects at some stage of the development process within the Odenton Town Center.

County Executive Leopold applauds the approval of the Odenton Town Center Agreement by releasing this statement, "The development of Odenton Town Center, as called for in the county's General Development Plan, has been a priority for this administration since I took office," County Executive Leopold said. "The lengthy planning and negotiations have paid off, resulting in a public and private partnership that will provide the needed infrastructure funding."

The Halle Companies has agreed to pay $15 million to build Town Center Boulevard, the linchpin to realizing the vision of Odenton Town Center. The agreements also provide for the construction of necessary sewer and water utility upgrades.

"I thank the County Council for recognizing that these agreements have a positive county-wide significance and are important to our constituents."
