Navy aims for accredited cybersecurity major

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -
An official at the U.S. Naval Academy says the academy is aiming to be among the first schools to have a cybersecurity major accredited by a top professional body.
Boyd Waite, the vice academic dean, said Monday at a Board of Visitors meeting that the school would like to have the program now under development accredited by ABET within four years. ABET is a nonprofit accrediting agency for the disciplines of applied science, computing and engineering.
It's the latest goal in a push by the academy to develop top-notch training for a field of growing importance in national security.
Vice Adm. Michael Miller, the academy's superintendent, also says he is continuing to meet with Navy officials about getting funding to build a $100 million cybersecurity facility on campus.
