PASADENA, Md. (WMAR) -

A 63-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a car on Ritchie Highway Monday evening.

Officers responded to Ritchie Highway near Jumpers Hole Road at about 7:45 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian accident.

Once on the scene, officers found Raymond Walkup of no fixed address had been hit by a Mercury Grand Marquis. Walkup was taken to Shock Trauma, but died of his injuries.

It has been determined that the Mercury was traveling southbound on Ritchie Highway when Walkup attempted to cross toward the center median.

Police say Walkup was wearing dark colored clothing and failed to yield the right of way to the Mercury.

Walkup was hit before he could reach the median.

Police believe pedestrian visibility and possible alcohol use by the pedestrian appear to be contributing factors in the crash.

The driver has not been charged.
