PASADENA, Md. (WMAR) -

Anne Arundel County Police have identified the man killed in a single car crash Wednesday night.

Police say they received two separate complaints of an intoxicated driver, driving a red Honda minivan with a tag number of 1AA0839 just before 1:00 a.m.

Shortly after the lookout was broadcasted, an officer spotted the van driving erratically and swerving across the roadway on Fort Smallwood Road near Edwin Raynor Boulevard in Pasadena.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver of the Honda accelerated away and out of the sight of the officer.

About 5 minutes later, officers found the Honda at Mountain Road near Fairwood Road where it had struck a tree, killing the driver. There was no one else in the car at the time.

The driver of the Honda has been identified as Amon Samuel Whitte, 25, of Baltimore.

Evidence suggests excessive speed is a primary cause of the crash. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were also contributing factors.
