“It's senseless and I'm angry.”
Nancy Cooper struggles with what's happened since she ran in the Boston Marathon this week.
She was only minutes behind the finish line at the time of the explosions.
A lot of tossing and turning. I know for me and for a lot of my friends that I talk to, it’s been hard sleeping. You just keep replaying things over and over and over again. And I guess that’s the hardest thing.
You want everything being back to the way it was. You want to fix it. You want it normal and it’s not going to be. At least for some time and for some of these people forever.
For Nancy, she may have been one of those people. Had it not been for some cramping and a little boy with a handful of candy.
“A little boy was standing right there and he said ‘Do you want a Twizzler?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, of course!’ And he gave me the Twizzler and he goes, ‘You’re going to keep running?’ And I said ‘Yes I am!’ and I did. It was a couple of minutes there stretching and talking and him cheering.”
A little boy, a Twizzler, and a two minute conversation saved her life.
“I have his picture in my head.”
Even her husband barely escaped.
“If my husband didn't go to the Redsox game he might have been at the finish line where he always is. Knowing who's behind and everything that's happened in Boston today, doesn't make the horror of the bombings any less painful.”
