Leopold to hail signal improvements in Parole

PAROLE, Md. - Commuters in the Annapolis area should be enjoying shorter trips, thanks to improved traffic signal
coordination along the Riva Road corridor in Parole.

Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold plans to detail the improvements Tuesday at a news conference.

The upgrades were funded by a Federal Highway Administration grant. County workers installed new software and hardware that monitors traffic volumes and makes real-time adjustments to signal timing at 11 stoplights in the corridor.

County officials say the new system has reduced travel time by 8 percent in the corridor, with the most dramatic improvements occurring on northbound Riva Road during the evening rush hour.

Leopold will also announce plans to install a similar system on Forest Drive, again using federal grant money.
