EDGEWATER, Md. - Some students from Central Elementary School in Edgewater had their afternoon bus ride home cut short following a bizarre situation.
Emergency crews were called to Central Avenue and Stepney Lane around 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
According to Anne Arundel County Police, an anti freeze fluid line burst on a school bus and sprayed several students while leaving school grounds.
The scalding hot fluid caused minor injuries on 4 students who were rushed to Anne Arundel Medical Center.
According to Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesperson Bob Mosier, 3 students suffered minor skin irritations while one student suffered first-degree burns.
All 4 students were treated and released, Mosier said.
According to Mosier, the school bus had a rear engine, and the students that were sitting closest to it were injured.
The students are believed to be between 10 and 11 years old, police said.
Officers explain representatives from the school board were on the scene and notified parents of the situation.
Students who were not doused in the fluid were able to be transferred onto another bus and taken home.
