LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) -- Officials at BWI Airport say a suspicious item in a nonpublic area of the airport forced the clearing of passengers from an area of Concourse D.
Airport spokesman Jonathan Dean says the incident Friday afternoon occurred in a lower-level airline space. He says the partial evacuation has had only had a minor effect on airline operations.
The investigation is ongoing.
Tamara Sisk of San Francisco was on a flight that arrived from Salt Lake City but wasn't initially able to go to a gate. She says the pilot told passengers just before 4 p.m. that there was a delay in their reaching a gate because of an evacuation at the airport.
Sisk said the plane eventually was allowed to arrive at a gate, and passengers got off about 4:30 p.m.
