GLEN BURNIE, Md. - Their mission is to serve in Afghanistan and Iraq, but today it was all about barbeque.

Here at Mission barbeque they have a goal today.

"We hope to serve about a thousand veterans today."

And of those one thousand not a single one will pay for their meal.

"For us it's to take great food and honor these hero's."

One of those heroes is 91 year old Claude Phelps.

Claude served in WW II  with the 94 Infantry under General Patton.   Phelps says it's such a nice gesture.

"They are so outstanding."

"So courteous."

This not a plaque or sculpture, it is a cake.

It's a creation from Charm City Cakes, an exact replica of the Iwo Jima monument.

"All together me and my staff spent about 60 hours on this."

"People don't even recognize veterans so it's a really good feeling to see something like this come about."

In many ways, every day is Veterans Day at Mission BBQ.

They sing the star spangled banner always at noon.

With an event this special, it stirs up a lot of emotion.

"I just want them to know I'm so proud to be an American."

Steve and Bill say this is the most important day of the year for them.

Not all of Bill's family could be here.

His son is in the Marines serving in Japan as we speak.

A week from today, Mission BBQ is opening up a new location in Perry Hall.

It plans to carry on the same tradition of honoring veterans.
