As soon as the gate opens by itself, you know you're in for a scary time at Dave Burgess's house.
It started out with one prop and one smoke machine and soon grew into a living nightmare.
With an operation as involved as this it's almost a year round hobby.
“I start in July with the fabrication. Sometime in September I do the programing,” Burgess says explaining an intricate series of spring-loaded ghoulish gags.
Walking through his Glen Burnie yard, trick-or-treaters are bombarded with smoke filled bubbles, machine guns and even a water spitting spider.
Burgess isn't a lone ghost. His wife Melody and 9-year-old daughter Harper help. Harper is just getting up the nerve to walk through the exhibit herself.
“He puts a lot of work into it. He's very dedicated,” Melody said.
Each exhibit is sophisticated and all these ideas come from one place.
“My twisted head,” Burgess said. “When I see something and I think I can build it I can.”
Burgesss put the finishing touches on his magnetic guillotine Thursday.
“We hear the screams and laughter from the kids, the smaller ones may cry but it’s all good,” Melody said.
Next year will be their 18th year and Dave says he has no plans to quit and that' s good because it is Halloween and you never know what you'll see.
