ODENTON, Md. (WMAR) - A 28-year-old firefighter was rushed to the hospital Friday afternoon after being slashed by a shard of glass while fighting a fire.
A spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department says they were called to the 600 block of Old Waugh Chapel Road in Odenton for a call of smoke billowing from the woods.
While crews were headed to the scene, they were told the fire was actually shooting from a two story home.
The house is considered to be vacant, but fire crews do not know how long it has been empty.
Nearly 50 firefighters were on hand to fight the flames.
In the midst of the blaze, a 28-year-old fireman was cut by a piece of glass. He was rushed to the Baltimore-Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie with minor injuries.
Fire investigators are on the scene working to determine what sparked the fire.
