CROWNSVILLE, Md. (WMAR) - A 75-year-old man is recovering after he was caught in a house fire Monday evening.

Captain Pfaltzgraff with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department says crews responded to the 1300 block of Generals Highway just before 6:30 p.m. for reports of a dwelling fire.

Once on the scene, they found heavy flames coming from the rear of a single family home that had been converted into three apartments.

As crews were making their attack, they got a report that someone may still be inside, Pfaltzgraff said. Crews then called a second alarm and brought about 75 personnel to the scene.

Emergency personnel removed the 75-year-old from the basement and took him to a local hospital in critical condition.

Crews were able to call the fire under control at about 7:30 p.m., however, the cause is still under investigation.
