Crews search for missing Bayside boater

PASADENA, Md. (WMAR) - Some rescue crews have suspended their search for the night for a missing Philadelphia man, whereas some will remain in the area throughout the night.

Officials say they responded to about 2 miles off the shore of Bayside Beach, Monday.

A crewmember aboard the sailboat Phoenix, contacted the U.S. Coast Guard at about 12:30 p.m., reporting a crewmember overboard. The caller said that two people, a man and a female, both fell overboard. Initially there were 5 people onboard the sailboat.

The woman, Hannah Kahn, 26, was recovered, but they lost sight of 27-year-old Jason Ryman. Ryman was described as wearing a blue shirt and blue shorts and did not have a life jacket.

Officials say the friends were sailing when a strong gust of wind caused the sailboat to tilt to the right and the two slid off. Kahn was rescued quickly, and Ryman was seen waving his hand but the crew was unable to reach him.

Crews from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Curtis Bay and Air Station Atlantic City responded to the area, but have still not found Ryman.

A Coast Guard response boat as well as a Maryland State Police helicopter will remain in the area and continue searching throughout the night.

Maryland Natural Resources Police have suspended their search for Ryman, however, they and other rescue crews will resume operations at first light Tuesday.
