BALTIMORE (AP) - The developer of a planned casino near the Arundel Mills mall south of Baltimore is asking the state to seize two horse-racing tracks from the Maryland Jockey Club and sell them to the developer.
Cordish Cos. President David Cordish said Thursday his company could use slot-machine proceeds to restore the Pimlico and Laurel Park racetracks to profitability.
A spokesman for Gov. Martin O'Malley says the administration doesn't want to get involved.
The state won authority last year to take over the tracks in response to the threatened loss of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico.
The Jockey Club says the tracks aren't for sale. It plans to seek state approval to curtail racing now that voters have approved of Cordish's plan.
