LINTHICUM, Md. (WMAR) -

The lower level security checkpoint at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport has been closed to allow the airport to construct a new 9-lane checkpoint.

The primary security checkpoints for Concourses A and B, located on the upper levels, will remain open and operational as construction continues.

The screening technology and other equipment from the now closed checkpoint will be used at the new checkpoint. BWi is currently in the midst of a major terminal enhancement that will improve the terminal and provide new services for travelers.

The new construction includes the new checkpoint for Concourses A, B and C, and a secure connector between Concourses B and C with moving sidewalks and other passenger amenities. The improvements will also feature updated airline gate hold rooms and new food and retail concessions.

The new checkpoint is projected to open later this spring.
