CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE, MD - A broken piece of equipment halted construction work on the Bay Bridge overnight.
Officials had hoped to wrap up the nearly four year deck replacement project by Memorial Day. According to the Maryland Transportation Authority, there's not much left to do; about a day's worth of smoothing out the new deck.
The delay won't hamper beach traffic this weekend. All lanes will be open on the bridge. But travelers might notice once section of the deck is a little bit rougher than the rest.
Officials hope to finish the grinding either next week or the week after. That will require them to shut down part of the westbound span overnight.
