Bird watching couple finds human skull

LAUREL, Md. (WMAR) -  

Police in Anne Arundel County are working to identify human remains that were found on February 24 by a couple who were bird watching.
 
Police say the remains were found in the area of Spring Road and Whiskey Bottom Road in Laurel in a wooded area. 
 
A citizen told police that he and his girlfriend were bird watching and hiking when the saw what appeared to be a human skull in the woods. 
 
The Medical Examiner also responded to the scene and recovered the remains, and have since confirmed that the remains are human. 
 
The cause and manner of death is still under investigation.
