ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Saturday morning saw storm preps in Annapolis. Sand was was bagged, and many residents began to secure their homes.

Sand bags at Market Space were provided as a courtesy for residents or businesses in low-lying areas.

Later Saturday, those residents in low-lying areas were encouraged to prepare for evacuation.

In a press release issued Saturday afternoon, Annapolis Mayor Joshua J. Cohen encouraged residents in low-lying areas to have and evacuation plan and shared that the City of Annapolis Call center would be activated on Sunday at noon.

In the release, those living near rivers or streams, in low-lying areas or flood prone areas were advised to evacuate as soon as possible.

Annapolis High School has been designated as the storm shelter for the citizens of Annapolis. Annapolis High School, located at 2700 Riva Road, will open at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28. The City of Annapolis will provide transportation to the shelter for any Annapolis citizen at no cost. Call 410-260-2211 to schedule transportation starting at noon Sunday, October 28.

The Annapolis High School is a pet friendly shelter that accepts dogs and cats only.

In addition to the school being used as a shelter, all four city garages will be open free of charge for city residents to park and protect their vehicles.
