ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WMAR) -

The Anne Arundel Medical Center is planning to add 140 jobs and 30 additional beds to their facility due to an increased patient demand.

The hospital has requested an additional 30 beds through a state certificate of need program. The program is designed to make sure new facilities are only developed when needed. The hospital is hopeful that the approval will come by next month.

In a statement released by the facility, they said "we are waiting for approval for our Certificate of Need from the Maryland Healthcare Commission that is currently under review. We have been adding jobs as we have grown and will continue to do so."

The center is also expecting to add 140 employees including shift nurses, support personnel and physician assistant services.

Earlier today, the Leapfrog Group announced that Anne Arundel Medical Center has been chosen as one of the Top Hospitals for 2012. Two other Maryland hospitals were also chosen for the honor, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and University of Maryland Medical Center.
