ANNAPOLIS - A grand jury has indicted Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold for misusing his executive protection squad for political and personal benefit, including removing signs of political opponents and asking them to wait while he engaged in sexual activity with a county employee in commercial parking lots.
State Prosecutor Emmet Davitt announced the indictment by an Anne Arundel County grand jury on Friday.
It charges Leopold, a Republican, with four counts of misconduct in office and one count of fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary.
Leopold, who is not married, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Davitt says public officials criminally abuse their public trust when they treat public resources as their personal property and public personnel as their personal servants.
