ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WMAR) - Lawmakers presented a tough new law to give prosecutes more ammunition in home invasion cases, Wednesday.
At a news conference, Montgomery County Delegate Susan Lee, surrounded by police and prosecutors, outlined the new measure.
She wants at least 30 years in prison for people who bust into homes with the intent to rob or harm the occupants.
"This is a very serious crime a perpetrator invading the sanctity of the home, taking control of it's occupants and proceeding to commit other crimes of violence. It's very atrocious and horrendous crime and there has been a huge surge in this type of crime not just in my county but in every region of Maryland," said Lee.
Lee says there were 24 home invasion robberies in Maryland last year, and it's been a growing trend across the state.
