AURORA, Colo. - We've learned this morning 24-year-old James Holmes, the accused Aurora Colorado theater shooter, will appear in court for the first time today at 11:30 Eastern.

University of Colorado officials were looking into whether Holmes used his position in his graduate program to collect hazardous materials.

School officials are not saying whether they knew the suspect in a mass theater shooting was anything more than a hard working student.

Authorities say Holmes has not been cooperating with police.

They say it could take months to learn the motive for his alleged attack early Friday on a packed theater of people watching the latest Batman movie.

The attack killed 12 people and wounded 58 others.

President Obama flew to Colorado to comfort victims family members. He said he was there not as President, but as a father and a husband.

Holmes was being held in solitary confinement at a Denver area county detention facility.

He's been assigned a public defender. He is scheduled for an initial hearing today at 11:30am.

Watch the initial hearing LIVE here or on your ABC2 Mobile app at 11:30 Eastern.
