ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York's Democrat-led Assembly gaveled out before midnight Monday night and will take up landmark gun control on Tuesday morning.

The measure is expected to easily pass the Assembly when it convenes Tuesday at 10 a.m.

The Senate run by a coalition dominated by Republicans passed the bill 43-18 in what was the proposal's biggest hurdle.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders have agreed on the bill that tightens New York's ban on assault weapons a month after the school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

The deal includes a tougher assault weapons ban and restrictions on ammunition and the sale of guns.

The provisions also would create a mandatory police registry of assault weapons and a more powerful tool to require the reporting of mentally ill people who say they intend to use a gun illegally.
