NASA: Asteroid on collision course with Earth is going to miss our planet

We survived the predicted end of the world on December 21 and now there's more good news.  NASA says an asteroid once feared to be on a collision course with Earth is no longer a threat.

Originally, NASA believed there was a one percent chance that the asteroid, called 2011 AG5, would hit Earth in February of 2040.  According to CNN, researchers began watching the asteroid and tracking its future course.  Astronomers believe the risk of it hitting our planet is completely eliminated.

NASA says the asteroid will pass no closer than 553,000 miles from Earth.  If it had struck, the asteroid would have released about 100 megatons of energy.  That's several thousand times more powerful than the atomic bombs in World War Two.
