There were nearly $40 billion in prizes awarded in U.S. lotteries last year, and about $800 million of that wasn’t collected.

In Wednesday night’s drawing, there were about 70 people who scored a $1 million prize.

Lotto officials say one or two of them will never know they are winners.

The jackpot is back down to $40 million.
