Obesity is a known problem in the United States, and now health officials say that an estimated one in every three adults and one in every six children are obese.
It is a condition that can lead to many health issues, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
So on Tuesday, some leading researchers will meet in New York City to discuss the state of the obesity epidemic in the United States and come up with solutions to the problem.
“The numbers continue to increase, in terms of the number of adult Americans and especially children and adolescents who are becoming obese and overweight,” says Dr. Stacy Brethauer of the Cleveland Clinic. “The predictions are the epidemic will continue to grow over the next decade unless some fairly major changes are made in terms of people’s diets and behavior.”
Doctors say they need to get back to the basics with overweight patients, to help them to make healthier food choices, and get active.
