Idaho Sen. Crapo apologizes for DUI arrest

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- Idaho Sen. Michael Crapo has issued a statement apologizing to his family and constituents for being arrested and charged with driving under the influence in suburban Washington, D.C.
 
Police in Alexandria, Va., say Crapo was stopped for running a red light early Sunday and was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. He was released about four hours later on an unsecured bond.  Police say Crapo registered a blood alcohol level over the legal limit in Virginia. 
 
Crapo's statement says he accepts "total responsibility" and will deal with whatever penalty comes his way.
 
A Mormon who grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Crapo was named a bishop in the church at age 31.The Mormon church prohibits the use of alcohol, as well as coffee, tea and other substances. Crapo has told The Associated Press in past interviews that he abstains from drinking alcohol.
