They lined the streets for a hero's homecoming in Knox, Indiana. It was a celebration that was 40 years in the making for a war hero from Vietnam.

In 1970....Warrant Officer George Andrews Howes was declared missing in action when his helicopter crashed.

Earlier this year the army identified his remains through a d-n-a test. Monday night they were taken home.

Sadly Officer Howes’ parents didn't live long enough to see their son come home...so the town served as his surrogate family.

He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
