Del. mall apologizes after breast-feeding flap

A Delaware mall is apologizing to three women who say a security officer discouraged them from breast-feeding their infant children during a national "nurse-in."

 

The News Journal of Wilmington reports (http://delonline.us/XHuxE8 ) that the women handed out literature on breast-feeding and brought signs during a visit Saturday to the Concord Mall. They say security asked them not to display the signs. An officer argued with the women after they began breast-feeding even though breast-feeding is legal in public and private places in Delaware.

 

The mall's management says the officers' response was "inappropriate" and they have been removed pending an investigation. It says security personnel will be trained on a woman's right to breast feed.

 

Sgt. Paul Shavack, a state police spokesman, says a trooper witnessed the argument and contacted mall management.
