Couple fosters 400 children

DES MOINES, Iowa -  

Mother’s and Father’s Days must be quite memorable events for one Iowa couple.

It probably takes them days to read their cards.  Over the past 25 years, Dan John and his wife have fostered more than 400 children.

And the John’s have three kids of their own.

In 1987 they took in a daughter’s friend and haven’t stopped caring for kids since.  They’ve had them as young as 18 months and as old as 17 years.

It hasn’t always been easy, but they’ve never given up on a kid.

“We’ve had our times, talk about times,” says John.  “We’ve had kids come in, punch, kick, scream, holler.  It hasn’t always been rosy.

They do say they don’t know how much longer they can do this.
