BEL AIR, Md. - A family photo captures one of the last images of 29-year old David Bauguess, his younger sister, Ashley, and 17-year old Joey, who was the youngest of the siblings---all killed in a single accident in Bel Air Monday night.
"The cops came to my door at one, quarter after one or something like that, and told my wife to sit down... that there'd been an accident and she thought you know that the kids had hit something or something. Then when they told her that all three of her kids were dead, she just lost it," said the victims’ step-father, John Farmer.
Maryland State Police say the Chevrolet Cavalier the victims were riding in crossed the center line on Route 543 just south of Wheel Road, sideswiping one car before spinning into the path of another one.
The impact of the crash split the car in two making it difficult to know who was driving at the time.
As highway workers continued to clear debris from the crash on Tuesday, one of Ashley’s friends, Carey Rohrbaugh, stopped and looked on in disbelief.
"The last time I saw her, Ashley brought the kids over. Our kids are around the same age. She's got great kids. She's an awesome person,” said Rohrbaugh, “They were all three really awesome people. It's a really great loss."
While the investigation into the crash continues, back in Fallston, the victims’ family is balancing its grief and funeral planning for the brothers and their sister with concern for Ashley’s two young children.
"She's got two kids. So the other grandmother has the two kids where she had joint custody with them... with my daughter,” said Farmer, “(It's) just I don't know how my wife's gonna take it from here on out."
The three victims also represented their grandparents’ only grandchildren.
Police say the two people in the car that struck them are expected to survive their injuries.
