TOWSON, Md. - Long before violence erupted in the house on Allegheny Avenue in Towson, neighbors had good reason to be on guard.
"There's been two burglars very apparent who break in the front doors of two houses and totally ransacked them,” said Bob Schroder, “It's like a block... two blocks from our house, and we're all very concerned, 'Are we gonna be next?'"
But the burglary this time was different.
According to police, the suspect entered through a second floor window, he was armed was a revolver and he was willing to use it.
"The homeowner tells us he came home late and found a burglar inside the house,” said Elise Armacost of the Baltimore County Police, “That burglar forced him at gunpoint into the basement and shot him as he descended the stairs. He was not seriously injured."
According to charging documents, even though the bullet entered the back of the 65-year old man’s neck and exited through his face, he was still able to dial 911.
A few hours later, an officer spotted 49-year old Bradford Steven Holup, dressed in camouflage, as he jumped into a car a few blocks away and they arrested him.
At this point, police can’t say whether Holup was responsible for any of the other burglaries in the area, but neighbors say they’re beefing up security in their homes unwilling to take any chances.
"It was disturbing to say the least,” said Debbie Fox, “I have a 23-year old and a 21-year old that are out that time of the night and come home, and we also live around the corner. So, it's quite concerning."
Officers say they found one of the unidentified victim’s credit cards in Holup’s pocket.
He’s being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on attempted murder and burglary charges with no bail.
