Ravens scheme suspect arrested

ABERDEEN, Md. - ABERDEEN, Md. - A man who police say is responsible for several schemes promising to deliver Baltimore Ravens players to local schools has been arrested.

Police say Joseph Gill convinced the PTA from Sudlersville Elementary School on the Eastern Shore to give him $400, so he could bring Ravens’ defensive back Lardarius Webb to the school for a bullying seminar.

But police say Gill has no connection to the Ravens, and Lardarius Webb was never coming to Sudlersville.

“That's pretty low when you start scamming kids,” said Dep. Dale Patrick, of the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say gill pulled the same scheme at a middle school in Queen Anne's County -- along with more than 20 other schools in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll and Howard counties.

"Four-hundred dollars a shot from schools, but when you start hitting 20, 30 schools recently -- and he has a past of doing something similar to this scam,” Dep. Patrick said.

And that's why investigators in Queen Anne's county put Joseph Gill on their “Most Wanted” list.

ABC-2 ran an exclusive story about him last week; this week, a man in Harford County called the Queen Anne's Sheriff's Office.  He said he had a friend who thought she had seen Joseph Gill, after seeing his picture on television.

That helped investigators track Gill to a motel in Aberdeen, and Aberdeen police took him into custody Tuesday night.

“The sharing of information plus with the assistance of all the media, he didn't have a chance,” Dep. Patrick said.

Joseph Gill is being held on the warrant for theft out of Queen Anne's county -- but he can expect to be charged soon by those other counties where police say the crimes happened.

He is also out on parole -- that could be revoked, and he was on probation from a federal violation in Virginia.  For now he remains at the Harford County Detention Center.
