Columbia, MD - Brenda Orellana, 18, never dreamed about a wedding in a hospital room. It's pretty safe to say, no one would. But her unborn daughter gave her no other option.
"I had pain in my back and I started throwing up and my water broke," Orellana said.
Orellana is just 31 weeks, so now she's on bed rest and unable to go through with the wedding plans set for next week. The nurses at Howard County General Hospital stepped up and went beyond the baby monitors to bring in decorations, a cake, and plenty of help for mom to slip out of her hospital gown and into her wedding dress.
"She was kind of feeling down because we had a wedding planned next week, and a nurse overhead and said you know we can make something happen," said expectant father Bryan Salinas.
Plenty of tissues were on hand, as their family pastor and both sets of parents were in the room. There was no aisle to walk down and no first dance, but a cake and flowers, donated by Giant and Safeway when they heard the story, gave this wedding day its own fairy-tale ending.
"It is different, but it's a nice story to tell. Not everybody has a story," said Salinas.
Orellana is on medication to stop the contractions. Nurses hope to keep her pregnant closer to her due date.
"That's all I want for now, to have the baby," said Orellana.
And when their little wedding crasher Isabella arrives, they'll pass along the good news.
