It was six years ago that the Dawson family was murdered in their home while they slept.  On Thursday the community will honor the family at the Dawson Safe Haven Center.

Baltimore Housing will hold a memorial service at the center.  This is a place where children can enjoy after school programs.  City leaders worked hard to turn the East Baltimore neighborhood into a better place.

In October 2002 a man torched the Dawson home in East Baltimore, killing seven members of the family.  Police said it was retaliation because the family complained about drug sales in the area.  The fire killed Angela Dawson, her husband and five children.

The 6th Anniversary Memorial Service will begin at 2pm at 1401 East Preston Street in Baltimore.
