BEL AIR, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office says 55 children have escaped safely from a daycare center fire in Bel Air.

Deputy State Fire Marshal Joseph Zurolo said the fire was reported shortly after 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Celebree Learning Center on Agora Drive in Bel Air.

He says the cause is still under investigation but it appears to have originated in an unused kindergarten room of the one-story structure.

Zurolo says the fire caused about $175,000 worth of damage. He says the children were taken to a nearby building to be picked up by their parents.
