About one in 12 Americans under the age of 18 have metabolic syndrome, which is a combination of obesity, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, and other health risks.
A recent study shows teens with metabolic syndrome score significantly lower on math and spelling exams, and also have lower attention spans.
Researchers say the findings are a warning for families, as even a few years of metabolic syndrome may cause negative effects.
