BALTIMORE - The Komen Maryland Race for the Cure will take place on October 23rd in Hunt Valley, but a number of fundraisers have been involved for months and some even years.
Amanda Brannan lost her mother to breast cancer in August of 2009. Amanda was only 12-years-old at the time. But the now 14-year-old says she promised her my mom she would fight to help find a cure to breast cancer. She has set a goal that when she turns 18-years-old she will have raised $50,000 dollars for breast cancer research.
Brannan is not alone, Gabriella Polsinelli has already raised nearly $2,300.00. She has a personal goal of raising $10,000.00 for breast cancer research. Polsinelli has a personal stake in the Komen Walk. Her aunt Maria died of breast cancer in 2006. But Polsinelli has been walking in the Race for the Cure for the past seven years and has raised more than $34,000. She is the top fundraiser for her team, the Catholic High Cubs for the Cure.
