Researchers believe they have found a way to significantly reduce tumor size in breast cancer patients.
The study found that when patients were treated with the two cancer drugs, herceptin and tykerb, tumors shrank.
After 6 weeks of taking both drugs, patients had tumors 20 percent smaller than women taking just one of those drugs.
The drug herceptin is approved for breast cancer. Tykerb has only been used for treatment of advanced cancer.
This is the first time both drugs have been tested together. The study is published in the "Lancet Oncology" report.
