BALTIMORE - A soldier who lost all four limbs in a roadside bombing in Iraq is now a medical miracle. He is the recipient of a double arm transplant.
Doctors at Johns Hopkins, where the surgery was performed, say it could take several years before Brendan Marocco is able to fully use his new arms.
Marocco says he feels great, but has no feeling or movement in his hands yet.
The 26-year-old also has a message for fellow amputees.
“There’s a lot of people who will say you can’t do something, just be stubborn and do it anyway,” he says. “I’ve overcome so much in the last four years that I’m honestly not worried about the risks.”
Marocco’s procedure took 16 surgeons 13 hours. He will be here recovering for the next few months. He is just one of seven US soldiers to ever have this procedure.
