BALTIMORE - This might seem like a no brainer, but the amount of time your child spends in front of the TV can have a negative impact on the amount of sleep they get.
Researchers studied more than 2,000 children and how they spent their last 90 minutes before bed. The results showed that the majority of children watched TV before bed. Many of the children spent 30 of the 90 minute period watching TV shows. And those who went to bed later, watched about 15 minutes more each night.
Doctors recommend doing quiet, non-stimulating activities before bed time. "Make the bed time conducive to sleep; low activity, low light so that the natural rhythms can kick in on time and the child gets a full night's sleep," said Dr. Jyoti Krishna of the Cleveland Clinic.
Researchers suggest cutting back on TV time to get the kids to go to bed earlier.
