A new study may make some people think twice about today's lunch.
It could contain flame retardant.
Researchers sampled 36 foods, including peanut butter, from Dallas-area stores between 2009 and 2010.
The study's author is from the University of Texas School of Public Health.
The scientists say nearly half of their samples had detectable levels of HBCD.
That's a commercial flame retardant mixture.
They also sampled other foods, like deli meat, poultry, and sardines.
Researchers say food could be behind elevated HBCD levels in humans and that the data suggests a larger and more representative sampling should be done.
The study is in a peer-reviewed journal published by the National Institute of Environmental Health, called "Environmental Health Perspectives."
