A 13-year-old girl in Anne Arundel County needs your help. She's trying to conquer a serious brain disorder that affects a lot of people including herself.
Your support this weekend can help change lives.
Megan Killpatrick of Millersville has a rare medical condition called Chiari malformation.
"Chiari it's a brain malformation where part of the brain comes out of the skull and it puts pressure on your brain and your spine and it can cause like really bad pain and nerve damage," says Megan.
Megan has had several brain surgeries, she deals with painful headaches and has to wear a back brace all the time.
But she doesn't let that keep her down. Her friend Tess Constantine says, "She deals with it amazingly. She's so strong, so brave and she's helping other people and I just think it's amazing."
Friends Tess and Josee Molavi are teaming up with Megan to help her organize the second annual walk to Conquer Chiari.
Last year, Megan started the first walk in Maryland. The event at Kinder Farm Park raised $25,000 with 400 participants.
Tess was one of the top earners. She's hoping to beat that goal again. “I know everyone is always saying you can make a difference but this has really shown me that you really can."
Josee made a video about Megan and uploaded it to Youtube.
They hope it will raise awareness about Chiari and why more research is needed, there's still no cure.
Josee says, "I don't know how she goes through it everyday. She's really inspirational for people with Chiari."
Megan says, "We're going to have like bean bag races and all kinds of different games like a bean bag throw, we have a lacrosse shootout type thing, it's going to be really fun, arts and crafts."
The walk is on Saturday, September 22nd at 9 AM at Kinder Farm Park in Millersville. If you would like more information about the walk, you can call 443-296-7367 or email conquerchiariwalkmd@verizon.net
