According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of Monday there were 15 cases documented of fungal meningitis in the state of Maryland. That's an increase of two cases since Thursday of last week.
The CDC reports though the numbers have increased, there is still only one known death in the state.
Nationwide, as of Monday, there were a total of 214 cases of fungal meningitis and 15 reported deaths. That's an increase in the national total of cases of 44 since Thursday.

It's rare and noncontagious. Officials say the recent outbreak in fungal meningitis is the result of tainted steroid injections manufactured by a company in Massachusetts .
