Baltimore County - A recent report by the American Academy of Pediatrics find that when comparing holidays, Memorial Day has the second highest number of children injuries.

The academy studied emergency departments across the country and found that children with the highest risk of injury are those under five years of age.

Instead of holiday-related injuries, most are the everyday bumps and bruises, sprains and strains related to sports and recreation.

"They're out and about. They're usually having fun. They're at barbeques. They're at picnics. They're at pool parties," said Dr. Jeff Sternlicht, chairman of Emergency Medicine at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore County.  "Sometimes there's less supervision then there should be. And there going out having fun, hurting themselves as a result."

Here are some tips to remember:

Food safety -make certain food has been properly refridgerated, avoid cross contamination with raw meats and cook thoroughly.

Grill safety-keep the grill clean, safely and from children and buildings.

Water safety-whether boating or at the pool.

Sun safety-hats and lotion.

Travel safety-remember those seatbelts.
