It can be annoying to share a bed with someone who snores. But there are simple changes you can make to get to a quieter night.

"We should sleep like babies every night," says Edward Grandi with the American Sleep Apnea Association.

Hard to do when you or your partner snores. But these simple changes can help.

"Sometimes it can be as easy as getting a new pillow. Pillows, especially feathered pillows become home to dust mites and people are allergic to dust mites and people go to bed and they put their head down on the pillow and all of a sudden their nose clogs up and then they're breathing through their mouth," says Grandi.

Breathing through your mouth will make snoring worse. Try not to sleep on your back either.

“You want to sleep with your mouth closed, breathe through your nose and you want to sleep on your side," says Grandi.

It also helps to sleep in a cool, dark room. While some might think snoring is just a nuisance, it could be a sign of something much more serious.

"If it's chronic, if it's loud, if there are witnessed pauses in breathing. You kind of sleep, snore, and then stop, and the silence just goes on forever and ever and then all of a sudden there's a gasp," that could be a sign of sleep apnea, a dangerous condition that needs to be treated.

Smoking can also make snoring worse. It tightens the upper airway making it harder to breathe.
