Gastric Bypass surgery may be a better option for losing weight than gastric banding. That's according to a new Swiss study.
Researchers studied more than 400 surgery patients. They found those with the gastric bypass had a much better body mass index, six years after the surgery than those receiving the band.
The gastric banding involves placing a band around the stomach, while bypass actually shrinks the stomach and attaches it to the small intestine.
However, researchers also found bypass patients had a higher rate of complications.
