A panel is expected to give a recommendation to the FDA Thursday about the effect of food dyes on children.
The panel will recommend whether the agency should further study the issue or require better labeling.
A recent study suggested food dyes are linked to hyperactivity in children.
The FDA has so far said there is no proven connection but for "certain susceptible children," hyperactivity and other behavioral problems may be exacerbated by food dyes and other substances in food.
